During Han Dynasty, the most prosperous dynasty in China during 206 BC – 220 AD, the Silk Road was created. It was a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and the East.
Traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, and urban dwellers travelled from China to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time via the Silk Road. They needed several rest stops a long their way. Thus teahouses were established along the roadside. Travellers would go to teahouses for a quick pump of energy. Apart from tea, teahouse owners began adding various snacks. Hence, Dim Sum was invented.
