dimsum  During Han Dynasty, the most prosperous dynasty in China during 206 BC – 220 AD, the Silk Road was created. It was a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and the East.

a_dimsum1Traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, and urban dwellers travelled from China to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time via the Silk Road. They needed several rest stops a long their way. Thus teahouses were established along the roadside. Travellers would go to teahouses for a quick pump of energy. Apart from tea, teahouse owners began adding various snacks. Hence, Dim Sum was invented.
